Sign documents using your remote keys

Virtual CSP is a custom provider for Microsoft Windows Cryptographic Service Providers (CSPs), which allows documents to be signed using remote keys. It removes the need for local hardware such as smart cards and USB Tokens, without changing the user experience. The signing keys and certificates are managed centrally at the server side (ADSS Server).

Sign documents within your business applications

Users can sign any document or file directly within their business applications without the need to upload to a hosted service. In addition, the application file format is retained after the signing process. This means no automatic conversion to PDF or other formats.

Manage your remote certificates

Virtual CSP is a Windows plugin for Microsoft Cryptographic Service Provider that manages remote certificates. This plugin hooks into the Windows CSP module and pushes server held digital certificates into Windows Keystore for signing documents and other data from different desktop applications.

Signing keys protection

The access to the signing keys are protected by remote authorisation, this is done through Ascertia Go>Sign Mobile app, which is available for iOS and Android. Signing can be performed using any CAPI or CNG aware applications. These can be Microsoft Office applications or third party applications such as Adobe Acrobat Professional or custom desktop apps.

Authentication options

Virtual CSP supports four authentication options to perform signing:

No authentication
Password authentication
Remote authorisation using Ascertia Go>Sign Mobile app
Password and remote authorisation using Ascertia Go>Sign Mobile app

Availability

Virtual CSP does not have a separate user interface (UI) for signing as it adopts the UI of the native applications. Similarly, the later authentication steps for all four options will be the same across all the applications.

PREREQUISITES

Users can perform both remote signing and Remote Authorised Signing (RAS) using Virtual CSP

For remote signing, the following data should exist in ADSS Server:

Users should be registered into the ADSS CSP Service to log into Virtual CSP
Required certificates with and/or without password authentications

For Remote Authorised Signing (RAS), in addition to the above, the following data should exist in ADSS Server:

Users should be registered into the ADSS CSP Service to log into Virtual CSP
Required certificates with simply remote authorisation or remote authorisation and password authentications
Users should be registered in ADSS SAM Service to be able to log in from Go>Sign Mobile Application
